Newport

From Encyc

Newport is a place name that means "new market town" (Old English niwe port).

There are two places with that name recorded in the Domesday Book, in Essex and Buckinghamshire; the latter is now called Newport Pagnell after 12th century landowners called Paynel. There are 16 place names in the British Isles that are or begin with Newport.

There are also several places in the USA, Quebec and the West Indies with that name.
