International Standard Book Number

From Encyc

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a number that can uniquely identify any published book. It has 13 digits (though before 2007 many ISBNs had only 10 digits). The first part identifies the publisher, and the rest is used by the publisher to identify each book.
