The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization that runs Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikiquote, the Wikimedia Commons, and a number of other projects.


Wikimedia is the company that runs and controls Wikipedia. It is not-for-profit, but is closely linked to the commercial firm Wikia. It also controls and hosts other "wiki" projects, including Wiktionary, Wikibooks and Wikiversity; these all exist in several different languages. It also produces the software.
