Tank

A tank is a heavy, tracked, motor vehicle with a machine gun and a cannon, used in warfare. Tanks usually carry heavy armor, making them invulnerable to small arms fire and resistant to mines, rockets, and artillery.

Tanks were invented during World War I as a way to break the stalemate of trench warfare. They came into their own when used en masse during World War II, and were a key component of Blitzkrieg. Over time they proved vulnerable to air attack and to isolation from their supporting infantry.
