GestapoThe Gestapo was the secret police of Germany before and during World War II. Filled with Nazis, it terrorized the German populace into support of the regime by arresting and persecuting dissenters. It participated in the Holocaust. In occupied countries, the Gestapo was known for kicking down doors, arresting people and then murdering them. The Gestapo attempted to suppress resistance activity by torturing people to extract information. It also killed innocent people as a reprisal for resistance attacts. |
