Dive BomberA dive bomber is a type of airplane designed to drop a bomb? on a target by diving at it. During World War II, they were popular. The Stuka dive bomber was a German plane fitted with a siren. It made a loud noise, and was very intimidating during the invasions of Poland, France, and Russia. Later in the war these slow planes proved vulnerable to ground fire. The Dauntless? dive bomber was an American plane that scored major victories during the Battle of Midway, sinking the Japanese aircraft carriers. Following World War II, the development of improved missiles and antiaircraft fire made dive bombers obsolete. |
