Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president. He held the country together through the Civil War, and issued the Emancipation Proclamation ?, freeing the slaves in all areas controlled by the Confederacy ?.

He was born in Kentucky ?, then moved to Illionois ? at a young age. He lived in a log cabin and used a charcoal pencil ?. Later he became a lawyer.

In April 1865, at the end of the Civil War, he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth ?. He was shot in the back of the head while watching a play at Ford's Theater ?
