1956 Sinai CampaignThe 1956 Sinai Campaign was a war between Great Britain, France, and Israel on one side, and Egypt on the other. The war was fought in response to Egypt's nationalization of the Suez Canal, and forbidding of Israeli shipping. Militarily, Great Britain and France seized the canal quickly, and Israel overran the Sinai Peninsula. Politically, however, the United States and Soviet Union intervened and forced the nations to conclude a truce. |
